More Klass Vaki Research

Results of a scientific research project done at the University of Cape Town RSA and published in the April 1995 issue of the South African Medical Journal.
Ratings of comfort during a 30 minute test in the supine position on the Klass Vaki Body Support (KBS) and the conventional mattress.
A controlled test proved conclusively (see chart) how effective Klass Vaki is in reducing back muscle spasm and pressure when used on top of a conventional mattress.
CONCLUSION: This study showed that compared to a conventional mattress, resting on a KBS2000 (Klass Vaki) on top of a CM significantly reduced EMG activity of the Erector Spinae Muscles, Heart Rate and levels of discomfort in patients with lower back pain.
Heart Rate (First Time Use)
Changes in the heart rate during 30 minutes in the supine position on either the conventional mattress (CM) or the Klass Vaki Body Support (KBS2000)

Heart Rate (After 14 Days)
Changes in the heart rate during 30 minutes in the supine position after nightly exposure to the Klass Vaki Boddy Support (KBS2000) for 14 days on top of the conventional mattress (CM) or the Body Support (KBS2000 ) by patients and a control group.

Electromyography (First Time Use)
Changes in intergrated electromyographic (EMG) activity of the lumbar erector spinae muscles during 30 minutes lying in the supine position on either the conventional flat mattress (CM) or the Klass Vaki Body Support (KBS2000) by patients and a control group.

Electromyography (After 14 Days)
Changes in electromyographic activity of the lumbar erector spinae muscles during 30 minutes in the supine position after nightly exposure to the Klass Vaki Body Support ( KBS2000), Conventional mattress (CM).

The Ergo-Check Computer Printouts below represent exact measurement of the pressure ratio between the body and the surface on which it is lying.
The printout on the left represents the pressure measurement in the supine position and on the right in the lateral position.
The text evaluation of the 3 different surfaces appears on the right. The program compares the measured values and presents this as a bar graph.
Systems A and C alternatively represent the pressure measurement on (a) a top quality innerspring mattress and (c) a hospital foam mattress.
System B represents the pressure measurement on KBS2000 (Klass Vaki) on top of a foam hospital mattress.
The Result: KBS2000 (Klass Vaki) generates 80% less pressure than the hospital mattress and 90% less pressure than the innerspring mattress.
